Spotlight on John Herold | Retirement Plan Consultant

Favorite Food

Pizza’s always been dear to my heart —the favorite spot in Boston is The Upper Crust. In S.F., it’s Delfina’s or Pasqualle’s.

Favorite Book

The Great Bridge — The Epic Story of the Building of the Brooklyn Bridge by David McCullough for the risks taken and having to discover new ideas, concepts and technologies on the fly to create what was a modern marvel of its time.

Jump from a plane or scuba dive with sharks?

Jump from a plane — better scenery and human control over the flying and parachute (I’m assuming I’ll be provided one!) …sharks are a little too unpredictable.

If you had one super power, what would it be?

Photographic memory…the kind where you could remember everything down to what you had for dinner the second Wednesday of March 2002.

Favorite Childhood Memory

Getting iced in the 4th Grade CYO Basketball championship game and hitting both free throws at the end to win the game. First of two sports titles in my life (other being little league baseball).

What’s your favorite insect?

Butterflies for being so photogenic and having no real way to bug, bite, sting or harm us.

What name would you choose for your band?

The Wicked 88 — piano bar group out of Boston.

What is the weirdest thing you have eaten?

Stinky Tofu from a street vendor in Shanghai — once you get past the smell, it’s actually really good!

If you could instantly be an expert in anything, what would it be?

Cold fusion power to help develop a clean, limitless supply of power to the world…CLOSE second is medical nanotechnology to develop the next generation of medical devices and cures that will work on the atomic level.

What do you want to do when you retire?

Sit at a piano for hours a day half the year and travel the world the other half.
