Along with a 401(k) plan, comes responsibility — including providing a reasonable selection of investment choices that carry as few fees as possible.

Most 401(k) providers offer investment choices that seem pretty solid until you find out about their back-end “loads” aka “fees.” And others aren’t built for small businesses and provide a limited set of 401(k) investment options that might not work for your employees.

Another problem that you may run into is a lack of resources for your participants. The Online 401(k) provides your participants with various tools and resources such as paycheck and asset allocation calculators and in-depth investment education.

Plus, if you don't have a financial advisor for your 401(k) plan, we provide access to Myfinancialadvice.com, a resource that your participants can use to find their own financial advisor or to get answers for one-off advice on 401 (k) allocations, for example, for a flat fee.

Our 401(k) plans are built for small businesses and as a result, our investment choices can be customized for whatever your needs might be:

I need a group of reliable mutual funds that will make my employees’ choices easy

I want as many investment choices as possible for my employees

I want my employees to be able to have the most up-to-date information on their funds’ performance

I want a specific custodian to hold our plan's assets

I have a financial advisor that will pick the investments for my company’s 401(k) plan. Can you work together?

I need a group of reliable mutual funds that will make my employees’ choices easy

With The Online 401(k), you can choose from 1,600+ funds – the number of funds you offer on your list is up to you. For example, you can create a list of under 15 funds so that employees aren’t overwhelmed, but you’ll be sure to offer your employees the cream of the crop. We also offer target date funds, which take the guesswork out of asset allocation for less experienced investors.

I want as many investment choices as possible for my employees

Our 401(k) plans include all types of funds, including:

  • Index
  • Equity
  • Bond
  • Money Market
  • Socially Responsible
  • Asset Allocation
  • Depending on your choice of custodian (Charles Schwab or Matrix), you can choose from a broad universe of funds to customize your fund list, with no limit to the number of funds you can offer. With Schwab, you can select from 1,600 funds and with Matrix, you can select from 17,000 funds. Your company can select from brokerage account options such as Schwab PCRA® or TDAmeritrade.

I want my employees to be able to have the most up-to-date information on their funds’ performance

Fund performance and prospectuses are available online, 24/7 and updated quarterly, with links to Morningstar® reports.

I want a specific custodian for our plan's assets

We have relationships with both Charles Schwab & Co., Inc. and Matrix Settlement & Clearing Services, LLC, which allows for flexibility in terms of custody arrangements.

I have a financial advisor that will pick the investments for my company’s 401(k) plan. Can you work together?

Working with an advisor is a great way to make sure you and your employees get the most out of your company's 401(k) plan. An advisor can help with fund selection, investment education, enrollment meetings and ultimately, increased participation!

Through our advisor platform, your advisor can integrate the funds he or she selects for you easily. And for those who are interested in offering financial advice to their employees, but don’t want to have a formal relationship with an advisor, we partner with Myfinancialadvice.com, a resource that can help you either find an advisor or allows you to buy financial advice, per question, such as 401(k) portfolio selection.
